India’s Srinidhi Shetty is Miss Supranational 2016, winning the 8th edition of the Poland-based beauty pageant which was held in the resort town of Krynica Zdroj. She is the second woman from India to clinch the crown after Asha Bhat, Miss Supranational 2014.
Shetty bested 70 other candidates for the crown with this year’s edition saw the debut of the final question round. Previous editions of Miss Supranational pageant did not include the interview round and instead focused on other segments such as the fantasy swimwear and sponsor dresses.
Shetty was crowned by outgoing Miss Supranational 2015 Stephania Stegman of Paraguay. Venezuela’s Valeria Vespoli finished first runner-up, the highest placement of the beauty pageant powerhouse in Miss Supranational.
The favorite among pageant experts and pundits, Jaleesa Pigot of Suriname, ended second runner-up. On the other hand, Jayanthi de Silva of Sri Lanka and Korinna Kocsis of Hungary bagged third runner up and fourth runner up, respectively.
In a report by the Indian Tribune, the Top 5 finalists answered questions fielded not by the judges but by their co-candidates. Interestingly, Miss India was asked by Miss Venezuela about the best thing that she experienced throughout the competition.
“One such thing? Well, thank you for your questions. 71 countries, 71 delegates fighting for same crown with unity and love-that’s one thing I’m gonna cherish forever in my life,” Miss India answered confidently.
Miss Supranational is one of the fastest growing international beauty competitions. It started in 2009 which was won by Oksana Moria of Ukraine. In 2013, Miss Supranational crowned its first Asian winner courtesy of Mutya Datul of the Philippines.
